Litigation in Japan
Q8: Can we use English in Japanese courts?

No. Any proceeding must be conducted in Japanese. Translators can be used for cross examination of witnesses and parties. If you would like to file documents written in a language other than Japanese, a Japanese translation must be filed with it. Extract translations can be used in this connection if you would like to file the part of a document.
