Litigation in Japan
Q2: What is the role of the supreme court?

The supreme court, which deals with civil disputes, handles appeal cases limited to legal matters; therefore, factual matters should not be brought there. The Supreme Court will be bound by the facts presented at the lower tier courts. A party's right to appeal to the Supreme Court has been narrowed to limit the number of cases. Please do not hesitate to contact us for further advice regarding appeals to this court.
